Verlander and Darvish met up again in game 5 and Acuna led off with an out for once.
But Kepler whacked a double the opposite way and a couple of walks later Darvish looked
to be in real trouble. Realmuto hit a fly ball to CF where Springer camped under it and
came up firing. Out at the plate! Both pitchers dominated the next few innings before the
Brewers finally broke the 0-0 tie on an Urshela RBI single. Diaz came up next with two on
looking to break things open but Brad Miller made a nice play to cut down J.D. Davis at
the plate. Narvaez then led off the 7th with a solo shot and the Brewers subsequently
loaded the bases as the Indians' relievers lost control for a bit, but Gsellman got Springer
to finish the inning. Darvish got an out in the 7th before walking Realmuto and departing
the game having allowed just a single hit. Jairo Diaz entered and Miller stretched him to
a full count before walking, bringing Correa to the plate as the go-ahead run. And he did
go ahead, turning on a pitch and hitting it high into the seats in left, giving the Indians
a 3-2 lead. And they didn't seem to be done as they put two men on in the 8th before pinch
hitter Willson Contreras slapped a single up the middle. Torres rounded 3rd thinking about
nothing but scoring as Springer scooped up the ball and threw another rope to Narvaez. Out
at the plate, inning over! Jimenez entered the game looking to lock down the save and take
a 3-2 series lead but Urshela still had some playoff juice left in him and drove a double
to left, taking third on a Diaz grounder to second. Nick Madrigal came in to run for him
but it turned out he could have walked home anyway as Renato Nunez tattooed a 3-2 pitch to
the exact same spot that Urshela had, tying the game at 3. Jimenez struck out Springer to
get the second out and then Brandon Belt hit a ball to deep right field that Kepler started
to back up on quickly before slipping on the wet grass (it was in the weather forecast I
guess) and seeing it drop behind him! Nunez scored easily and the Brewers had the lead again.
A tired Chapman stayed in and finished the game and the Brewers were now just one win away.
