Game 3
The Cardinals lead out their 3rd lefty starter in a row, putting David Peterson (10-10,
4.10 ERA) on the bump for game 3. The Astros countered with Marcus Stroman (8-14, 4.76 ERA)
as the series shifts to Sportsman's Park for 2 games.
In game 3, the fireworks started early and remained loud throughout. In the second inning,
Peterson walked Canha and Donaldson to start. After an error on Lux to load the bases,
Senzel grounds out but plates a runner, leaving runners at 2nd and 3rd with one out. After
a Corey Seager fly out, Luke Voit finds the left field boxes to make the game 4-0.
After a rocky but scoreless 3rd inning, the fireworks resumed in the 4th. Peterson allows
the first 2 runners to reach, and gives way to Casey Mize, who promptly walks the bases
loaded and then gives up a single to score 2 more. 6-0 now. By the time the inning is over,
it's 10-0 and maybe only an over excited 3rd base coach cut it short by getting Seager thrown
out at 3rd to end the rally.
The Stros tacked on 2 more over the course of the next couple of innings while the Cardinals
couldn't get anything going. Stroman had them locked down all game, until the 9th. Leading
12-0, Stroman got Hoskins to ground out to short, but then allowed 3 hits in a row, a single,
a double, and then a triple. At that point, the pen got involved and the game was soon over.
