Game 7
Chicago White Sox @ San Diego Padres
Rich Hill vs Max Scherzer
It all comes down to this. The final game of the season and the winner takes it all.
The Padres have Scherzer back and are looking to finish off the White Sox on their
home turf. The scoring starts early when Ryan Braun bats in both Cain and Span for
the Padres to go up 2-0. 2nd inning and Justin Turner smashes a home run with Blackmon
on base and we’re tied a 2 runs each. Padres back in front right away on a Romine run
in the 3rd and San Diego adds two more in the bottom of the 3rd after another big hit
from Ryan Braun gets him on 2nd and Ramirez hits a triple for him to score. Jose makes
it home too on a Didi Gregorius sacrifice fly and the Padres are up 5-2. Scherzer with
yet another playoff hit in the bottom of the 4th and he makes it home before Cain and
Joey Votto add two more. Then with the bases loaded, Jed Lowrie steps up and BOOM.
Grand Slam. The Padres are up 11-2 and the White Sox are reeling. O’Hearn homers in
the 6th and then things start to get interesting in the 7th. Hernandez triples, and
with two outs a Simmons single brings him home. Albies hits a triple and Simmons
scores. Harper hits a single and Albies scores. Ohtani whacks a double and Harper
scores. Suddenly the game isn’t so comfortable for the Padres! To the top of the 8th
inning and with Jeremy Jeffress coming in from the Padres bull pen to finish things up,
more drama unfolds. Turner with a single, then Hernandez and Suzuki are walked to load
the bases with no outs. A hush comes over the crowd. The Padres consider a change.
Jeffress collects himself and strikes out Simmons. The Sox bring Tim Beckham into pinch
hit, hoping he can add to his heroics from game 6. Strike out. But here comes ... Bryce
Harper. San Diego management can barely bring themselves to watch. Strike out. Jeffress
somehow survives the inning. The Padres pen closes things out in the top of the 9th and
this one is over. The San Diego Padres have won the World Series.
San Diego wins the series 4-3
Final Score: Chicago White Sox 7 San Diego Padres 12
GWRBI: Votto
Win: Scherzer
Loss: Hill
Series MVP: Max Scherzer
Another awesome performance from Max with 3 wins (3.60 ERA) and once again racking up
the hits (.500 AVG, 3 hits including 1 RBI). He did scare the crap out of me in inning 7
of the final game, but still. Special mention to Ryan Braun. The veteran hitter slugged
.741 with 9 hits, 2 homers and 9 RBIs, but have to love Scherzer adding his second World
Series in two days.

A huge thank you to Scott for hosting and playing out the drama over two nights. 3-1 down
after the first session and he probably feared the worst, but his awesome lineup kept
coming back and made it a hell of a series. Somewhat in shock at the run the team went on
and I had to pour myself a stiff drink post-game 7. It really felt like the tide had
turned in the last few games.
Also want to thank my 22 month old son Lincoln for smashing my keyboard furiously during
game 6 (and for sharing his Halloween candy).
A big thank you to everyone that works so hard to make this such a special league. The work
that you all do to make this league so great is truly appreciated and thank you for
welcoming me in. It's a honour to be a part of and to play with such amazing people. I look
forward to next season!
Now I'm off to order my Padres jersey with Scherzer's name on the back. -- Mark Slann
