Game 1 @MIL: Adam Wainwright to the mound for the Brewers against fellow 20+ game winner
Corey Kluber for the Dodgers. It wasn't a good start for him though, as Adam Eaton cracked
a double (get used to that) and was driven home by Jose Bautista (get used to that too) for
the first run of the game (you know the line by now) in the top of the 1st. After getting
that first run the Dodgers loaded the bases and were looking to cause major trouble but a
Neil Walker GDP ended the threat.
Another run came home in the 2nd when David DeJesus doubled and Eaton pulled a line drive
for a single to knock him in. The Brewers got to Kluber right away in their half of the inning
though, when Michael Saunders sliced a double the other way and Aramis Ramirez singled up the
middle to knock him in. After Pena walked the Brewers got conservative but caught a break, as
Ruben Tejada's bunt attempt fell for a hit to load the bases with none out. Wainwright tied
it up with a weak grounder that could never be a double play scoring Ramirez, and Danny Santana
put the Brewers ahead by 2 by dropping a 2 out double the other way and clearing the bases.
Saunders and Ramirez got to Kluber again in the 3rd with another double and single making the
score 5-2. Things got much hairier in the 4th in an inning that the Dodgers probably should
have been out of. Kluber struck out the first two batters, bringing the top of the order to
the plate. Back to back singles brought Yoenis Cespedes to the plate, and he scored Joe Mauer
with a chopper that eluded Kluber, bringing Giancarlo Stanton to the plate. And he broke it
wide open, bashing a 3 run home run to left and extending the lead to 9-2. Bautista and Brayan
Pena exchanged solo home runs and Troy Tulowitzki scored when Ruben Tejada mishandled a grounder
but that was it for the rest of the way, as Milwaukee cruised to a 10-4 win in the first game
of the series. Wainwright pitched 7.2 for the win while Kluber gutted out 6 innings to save
the bullpen but take the loss.
Brewers 10, Dodgers 4. Milwaukee leads series 1-0
