Game 6 @MIL: Hamels starts for the 3rd time on 2 days rest looking to extend the series
while the Brewers send Price to the mound.
Milwaukee scores first for the first time in the series in the 1st inning on a Beckham
single and a Ramirez double and take a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the 3rd.
Santana and Beckham tag Hamels for two more hits and that's it for him, as game 3 starter
McHugh enters the game. He gets his first out on a baserunning gaffe as Molina catches
Beckham too far off of first, but can't get out of trouble as two more singles and a wild
pitch bring in another run and put two runners in scoring position for Iannetta. He can't
capitalize though as Freese guns down Ramirez at the plate. Belt picks up the slack
though, rocketing a ball down the line in right that clears the fence easily, increasing
the lead to 5. Cespedes doubles and that's it for McHugh, as Odorizzi comes in and gets
Price to finish the inning.
The Phillies offense shows signs of life in the 5th as a Puig HBP, a Rollins double and
a La Stella walk loads the bases for the top of the order. With Milwaukee playing in
safe mode Ellsbury cashes Puig with a groundout and Davis lifts a fly ball to left field.
But Cespedes comes through again, gunning down Rollins at home to keep the lead at 4.
Deduno enters the game in the bottom of the inning and gets two quick outs before loading
the bases with a walk, a seeing eye single and a hit by pitch. With Price coming to the
plate and pitching well with only 75 pitches Uecker nevertheless sees a chance to really
break this game open and calls for Springer to pinch hit. And he's rewarded in spades,
as Springer drives a pitch to the alley in left centre that clears the wall and the bases
that puts Milwaukee up by 8.
The bullpen takes over from there and Philly can't get anything going. Milwaukee gets 3
more in the 7th off of Mejia on another Belt home run and three doubles including another
opposite field double from Mauer.
And that's how it ends, as the Brewers finish an otherwise close and tight series. Price
gets his second win with 5 strong innings while Hamels takes his first loss of the series.
Brewers 12, Phillies 1. Milwaukee wins series 4-2
Series MVP was Joe Mauer, who was a threat every time he stepped to the plate and finished
the series 10 for 13 with 4 doubles and 5 runs, including the go ahead run in game 5 and
the game winning RBI in game 3. Belt was also excellent, as he hit 3 HRs and scored every
time he reached base. On the Philadelphia side Puig and Rollins reached base more than
half the time and Davis bashed 2 HRs but it wasn't quite enough.
Congratulations to Eric on an excellent season and series. He's a very tough manager to
beat. As these series often do this one turned on a few big moments and could have easily
gone very differently. Looking forward to the next series (and Uecker is looking forward
