Game 3 in Cleveland was a big concern for Houston. The 'Stros decided
to put southpaw Mark Buehrle on the hill despite the heavy right
handed hitting of the Tribe. Would the risky move pay off? It seemed
to early, as Buehrle retired the first 6 hitters. The Indians got him
on the ropes in the bottom of the 3rd, loading the bases with 1 out.
Matt Diaz lined a sac fly to left, and Buehrle got Jeff Kent to fly
out to end the threat. On the other side of the coin, Justin
Verlander eased through 4 innings, but Houston took the lead on an
unexpected Khalil Greene 2-run homer. Buehrle then retired 11
straight hitters before allowing a 2 out double to Wily Mo Pena in the
bottom of the 7th, but Houston reliever Saul Rivera put out the fire.
Rivera escaped again in the 8th, enducing an inning ending DP after
the Tribe got 2 on with 1 out. Once again resorting to the multiple
pitchers per inning theory, Springer replaced Fultz, who had replaced
Rivera, to end the game. 5-4 Houston win, Springer with the 1-out
save.
