GAME 5: at Colorado’s Coors Field
Jacob deGrom (Astros) vs. Frankie Montas (Rockies)
Montas took the ball hoping for his second win in the series and a clinch for the
Rockies. He pitched pretty well allowing 6 hits, 2 earned run and 0 BB in his 6 innings’
work. The Rockies scored in the first inning on an error by the Astros’ Josh Donaldson.
Houston tied the game in the second on an RBI double by Tyler Holt. The Rockies regained
the lead in the fourth on an RBI single by Montas. In the sixth Jorge Soler added a solo
home run and the Rockies were up 3-1. In the seventh the Astros nearly tied the game on
a double by Jonathan Schoop that scored Luke Voit but saw Jose Martinez thrown out at
home. In the seventh the Rockies got some breathing room on an RBI double by Howie
Kendrick, an RBI single by Eddie Rosario and an RBI single by Donovan Solano. The score
was now 6-2 and that was the final score allowing the Rockies to advance to the National
League Championship Series.

MVP: There were two candidates for MVP for the Rockies. Donovan Solano had a great series.
He had a batting average of 0.632 going 12-19 with a home run, 6 RBI and 4 runs scored.
But the MVP had to be Frankie Montas. He picked up 2 wins in his two starts going 12
innings while allowing only 9 hits, 2 earned runs and 0 BB while striking out 16 batters.
